Book review: The Future of Us - Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler

Welcome back!
As mentioned in my last post I also write book reviews and wanted to share one today. I read a lot of youth, romantic and fantasy books but I always try to change the genre and the language of the books (for me as a half Brazilian and half German I change in between English, German, Portuguese and I'm trying to read a book in French too). That also means I can't share all of my books since some of the authors are German/Brazilian and there is no translation available. If anyone would however be interested in knowing any of these books you can always contact me.

The future of us book
To the book. I read it in German (Title: "Wir beide, irgendwann") so I only have a picture of the German version. It was written by Jay Asher, who is also the author of "Thirteen reasons why", and Carolyn Mackler. So that you can get an impression what the book is about here is the blurb (which I took from the Internet):

"What if you could see how your life would unfold - just by clicking a button? It's 1996, and less than half of all American high school students have ever used the Internet. Emma just got her first computer and an America Online CD-ROM. Josh is her best friend. They power up and log on - and discover themselves on Facebook, fifteen years in the future. Everybody wanders what their destiny will be. Josh and Emma are about to find out."

Now to my opinion: I really loved it. I think the idea is brilliant and it is really fun to have these nineties vibes in the book. Of course the story is a bit superficial and stereotypical (as really most of all the youth books and movies) but I liked the idea of how you would react if you could see what will be in the future and how that affects your decisions. It was really fun and easy to read and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking exactly for that, a fun story to read where you don't have to read two or three times to understand the plot.

This was the second youth book that Jay Asher wrote and although I do like "Thirteen reasons why" a little better because of the depth of the book, I think it was a good second shot at writing youth books. I hope he will write more in the future. As of Catherine Mackler I haven't really heard anything of her and her work but maybe someone of you knows a little more.

I hoped you enjoyed this little review and if anyone reads the book let me know what you thought.

Until next time!
